By William Van Meter
I call digital photography the “New Photography” that has replaced film, which has replaced the daguerreotype, which replaced the tin type, which replaced the salt print, etc.. I am a retired engineer and I have been working in Black and White (B&W) film for 20 years. My B&W web site is www.flickr.com/photos/vanmeter where I photographed store windows with mannequins.
I recently acquired a full frame digital camera, and noticed that digital has its own “certain look” for color tone and contrast. I tested the camera on flowers in full sunlight. When I got back the 4″ x 6″ proof prints, I was impressed and then had the images enlarged to 8″ x 12″. When I got these back, I was amazed at the results of the enlargements, which you see here. One is allowed to explore the flowers intimate physical structure, texture, and color unlike before, and I find this effect “new” and unusual.
Please enjoy these photographs as much as I have had making them.
